Community Partnerships

Our Club has grown dramatically since its inception and has enjoyed many successes of both competition and fellowship. In the Spirit of Aloha, we felt that it was time to start giving back to the San Diego community. To this end, we seek local charities with shared interests and values, and introduce them to the fun of our paddling activities, as well as sharing in the benefits of our fundraising.

JIT – Just In Time For Foster Youth

“Just-in-Time Foster Youth is an organization dedicated to supporting young people transitioning out of the foster care system. They provide essential resources, mentorship, and guidance to help these young adults achieve self-sufficiency and success. By offering educational support, development, and life skills training, they aim to bridge the gap for foster youth as they move into adulthood. Their goal is to ensure every young person has the opportunity to thrive.”  Many Foster Youth have never been exposed to some form of nature, like the ocean. Kanaka provides a memorable experience for this unique group of individuals.

Ocean Discovery

One of our charities is the Ocean Discovery Institute, a local non-profit organization that uses exploration of the oceans to engage and inspire young people toward college and a career in science. By preparing them to be scientific and environmental leaders, ODI empowers those young people to protect our oceans and natural environment.

Military Service Members

Another focus of our community work was the Balboa Warrior Athlete Program at Balboa Naval Hospital. The Club offered regular paddling days for military service members as a physically therapeutic component to their rehabilitation from service related injuries.
