New Kanaka UL - We Take Delivery Soon - Need Donations! Mahalo
As you also probably know, UL canoes are more than twice the cost of our traditional canoes, but our cash on hand from 2022, and 2023 dues, almost covered the $22k+ needed for this purchase.
However, right now, even after several generous donations, we’re still $2,200 short of the cash needed for the final payment. FYI, as authorized in the KOCC By-Laws, in the past, we have added a “boat fee” to the annual dues to help buy our first canoes. But we’re hoping to avoid that option with voluntary donations for this UL.
So if the remaining couple dozen members who have not yet donated could provide just $125 each, we’d have enough to pay the balance and accept delivery!
As you probably noticed during Iron Man Season, SCORA, and its member clubs, have pretty much shifted entirely to UL fleets.
So earlier this year, your BOD approved and vetted with the club at our last meeting the purchase of another UL.
We made the down payment, ordered the canoe, and are now expecting delivery as early as the end of this month!
So we can look forward to an August / September canoe blessing and possibly Johnny Puakea (the legend himself!) coming to our ceremony (and maybe providing some expert paddling tips).
